Management framework
Why is it important?
Using a Stakeholder Map sharpens your managerial focus. It creates clarity in communication channels, ensuring those with influence are engaged and those affected are informed. If you neglect it, you risk misallocating resources, overlooking critical allies, or blindsiding decision-makers – all of which can derail even the most promising projects.
Explained
Imagine a board game where each player has different levels of power and interest:
- Latent: These folks have the power to change the game but aren't too invested... yet.
- Promoters: Your avid supporters. They're rooting for you and have the clout to back it up.
- Apathetic: They're in the game but not playing much – low power, low interest.
- Defenders: They’re cheering you on from the sidelines, eager but not holding much power.
How to apply?
- Spot the Players: Grab some sticky notes and get your team to map out who’s in your project stakeholder universe.
- Power & Interest Check: Together, figure out who's got the influence and who's keen on your work.
- Strategise: Decide as a team how you'll talk to each group. Maybe a monthly update for the Latent ones and weekly check-ins with your Promoters?
